SHALLOTTE – State forestry crews were continuing suppression and fire-line work at the Quarry Road #2 Fire near Bricklanding Road and Old Georgetown Road in the Shallotte area, according to Brunswick County’s October 13 update.
In that update, the county reported no evacuation orders in effect and said residents previously evacuated had returned. Roads were reported open in the notice, although officials warn that closures or traffic diversions could be imposed if conditions change.

Residents and drivers may still encounter smoke, reduced visibility and visible flames, particularly at night. County officials advise people who do not live nearby to stay away so firefighting and emergency operations are not obstructed.
The county’s page preserves a previously reported 26.2-acre mapping estimate and 30% containment figure dated October 2 at 10 a.m. Those older measurements should not be taken as the current fire size or current containment. The North Carolina Forest Service’s public wildfire viewer is the appropriate resource for the latest incident measurements.
As of the county’s update, no injuries or structural damage had been reported, and the fire’s cause had not been established. Those are time-sensitive statements and may change as officials provide new information.
County officials also warn against flying drones near wildfire operations because aircraft conducting fire suppression may be operating at low altitudes. People in the affected area should follow direct instructions from emergency responders and call 911 if they feel unsafe.
